Restaurant Review Analysis

Hi everyone. It's been a while since I've done a restaurant review on Menya Nishi Muku Samurai, but recently I had an opportunity to do an restaurant review analysis on my assingments at uni, so I'd like to share the outcome of the analysis.

I analyzed two reviews, one is written, and the other one is visual.

The written one that I analyzed was reviewing a restaurant called Dirty French. You can access to the original post on The New York Times here, but there's a paywall.
Overall, the review wasn't something I was expecting from a restaurant review. It was very detailed, neutral and professional. The reviewer described wide range of foods on the menu as well as the exterior, interior, and the atmosphere of the restaurant in detail, which allows us to visualize the foods and the atmosphere of the restaurant in our head. Assuming from the broad, unique and elegant vocabularies that reviewer uses, the readers of this review are wealthy and well educated.
These factors can be positive for some readers, but could be negative for other readers depending on the target. Simply said, it is hard to read, especially if you aren't native speaker. In addition, the reviewer only mentioned the price of a dish, and there were no price evaluation at all. Food evaluation was neutral, but that made the review very vague and unclear of whether the reviewer was recommending the restaurant or not. Thus, for those who are looking for essential information such as price, rating and locations (like me), it can be very hard or even impossible to find them.

The visual review was "reviewing" the restaurant called the Galaxy on Youtube. Unlike the written review above, the reviewer wasn't a third party but the actual owner of the restaurant. Thus, the video was more of a promotion rather than a review, which made it very one-sided. It was however, combined with the visuals and the chef's not too pretentious but eager explanations, very apetizing to watch. Just like the written review, there were no explanation on its price or location.

Overall, I liked the visual review better than the written review due to its simplicity. In my opinion, both seemed to rack the essential information that people are usually looking for.

Hungry Planet - Australia

On 12/7 I did a presentation about an Australian family and their food consumption featured on the book called Hungry Planet in the english class, and I thought it would be a great idea to share it in this blog, so here we go. The pictures above show the typical Australian foods . You may have heard about Vegemite , the fermented spread, but there are much more than just that! Timtam , the chocolate bar is a classic Australian snack, and just like in Great Britain they eat meat-pies, fries, burgers, and grilled chicken . The unique one is fairy bread , a simple sugar toast commonly eaten by children at birthday parties in Australia. Also, major part of Australian cuisine is based on seafoods due to its location. This is the Molly family and their weekly consumed foods . In the middle stands Emily , the mother of the family. The man next to her is the father John , and the girl is their daughter Nathalie . Finally, the boy staring at the huge vegetable is Sean , smallest child of t...

Progress 2 - The World Food Problem

This is the second report on the reading progress of "The World Food Problem". In the last report , I explained the difference between undernutrition and malnutrition. This time, I will be explaining how researchers around the world tried to measure the extent of hunger .  There has been numerous attemps to measure the extent of hunger in the past, both nationally and internationally. However, it was very difficult to measure it precisely due to its difficulty and complexity of the conducted surveys. The First World Food Survey by Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) was first conducted in 1946, and there hasn't been much reliable datas before than that. Therefore, some alternatives had to be used when researchers tried to measure the extent of hunger.  The first method was to measure the weight and height of the people in the countries that were said to be suffering from hunger, and compare the numbers with the same datas from the developed countries . It was ...
