Progress 1 - The World Food Problem

On this post, I'm going to share the reading progress of the book I have introduced on October 26, 2023

The most important thing to note in the first few chapters of the book was the definition of hunger. The first thing that we imagine when we hear the word "hunger" is probably the image of barely fed children in Africa. While that is definitely considered as hunger caused by undernutrition, the author of the book claims that undernutrition is not only the type of hunger

The other type of hunger is what is so called a "malnutrition". Malnutrition means one is lacking some sort of essential nutrition in their diet. To make it more understandable, you are simply suffering from undernutrition if you are not eating enough. But let's say you are only eating rice until your stomach is full. You may have enough calories for the day but you would get sick very soon because you can not cover every nutrition that is essential to your body just by eating a huge bowl of rice. And that's malnutrition
This means, ― while it may sound confusing without the explanation I have just provided ― undernutrition is a type of a malnutrition, but they're not the same thing, and both are types of hunger.

Restaurant Review - MENYA NISHI MUKU SAMURAI

Recently, a Ramen restaurant has opened near my apartment. I was eager to try it out, so I took the opportunity by doing a first-time restaurant review on this blog. The restaurant is called Men-ya Nishi Muku Samurai ( 麺屋ニシムクサムライ ), and it is located near Hatagaya station (Keio New Line). For those who are interested in visiting this restaurant, here is the exact address: 2 Chome-56-1 Hatagaya, Shibuya City, Tokyo 151-0072 I ordered a white chicken broth Ramen with additional sliced pork (Char-Siu Tori Paitan Ramen, チャーシュー鶏白湯ラーメン ) and a sliced pork bowl (Char-Siu don, チャーシュー丼 ). The price was 1600 yen in total.   First, I had a sip for the Ramen broth, and as I was expecting the broth was somewhat creamy . Like a Tonkotsu broth (pork-bone broth) but not as strong flavor as Tonkotsu broth is. Then I tried the noodles. Not too thick, relatively soft noodles they were but nothing was very special. Now it was the time to give it a little kick with the other ingredients. ...

THE WORLD FOOD PROBLEM - David Grigg

For my book report assignment, I chose "The World Food Problem (2nd Edition)" by David Grigg. I have only read few pages of the book so far, but I'm assuming that the content of this book is going to be a description and records of histories related to food problems - or malnourishment more specifically - in various developing countries. To be honest I'm not really a big fan of books, but hunger is an issue that I especially sympathize to, so I will put as much effort as possible to understand this issue. However, the book is apparently outdated. So if there's any recommendations of the books similar to this topic, let me know in the comment section below! I'll put a link to the amazon, just in case anyone wants to read it too. https://www.amazon.com/World-Food-Problem-David-Grigg/dp/0631176330
