Food Blog Analysis

On the 5th week of my English course at Aoyama Gakuin University, each of our classmates did an analysis on the assigned award-winning food blogs, and I'd like to share the outcome of my own.

The food blog I analyzed is called pinchofyum.
If you're interested in visiting this award-winning food blog, here is the link.

Purpose

Pinchofyum originally started in 2010 as a casual hobby of the creator, and it has now grown into a full-blown business. Which means, the purpose of this blog is primarily for making money, although she may be still running it for the sake of self-satisfaction since the creator is also sharing bits and pieces of her life on the blog.

About creator/voice

Lindsay is the name of the creator as well as the voice.
The voice is casual. She uses a rather conversational language, and capital letters for the words she wants to emphasize.

Media used/Userfriendliness

You can easily search up for a specific food recipe by typing in the name of a dish, or simply click on the images of the dish categories and surf the blog for finding the dish you desire.
The design and layouts are amazing too.
There's however too much information on the recipe pages which makes it a little harder to find the recipe itself, so this blog may not be for someone who is trying to find a recipe for a dinner coming up in an hour.

Interactive aspects

There are links for various social medias (e.g. Twitter, Instagram, etc.). Moreover, one can even rate and comment on the recipes, and the moderators will most likely react on the comments. Thus, the blog is very interactive.

Social or political messages

As far as I see, there were no social/political messages to be found.

My impression of the blog

Overall, the blog is very sophisticated. However, I personally would not use it very often since there are too much information that I don't need for cooking a dish.

Restaurant Review - MENYA NISHI MUKU SAMURAI

Recently, a Ramen restaurant has opened near my apartment. I was eager to try it out, so I took the opportunity by doing a first-time restaurant review on this blog. The restaurant is called Men-ya Nishi Muku Samurai ( 麺屋ニシムクサムライ ), and it is located near Hatagaya station (Keio New Line). For those who are interested in visiting this restaurant, here is the exact address: 2 Chome-56-1 Hatagaya, Shibuya City, Tokyo 151-0072 I ordered a white chicken broth Ramen with additional sliced pork (Char-Siu Tori Paitan Ramen, チャーシュー鶏白湯ラーメン ) and a sliced pork bowl (Char-Siu don, チャーシュー丼 ). The price was 1600 yen in total.   First, I had a sip for the Ramen broth, and as I was expecting the broth was somewhat creamy . Like a Tonkotsu broth (pork-bone broth) but not as strong flavor as Tonkotsu broth is. Then I tried the noodles. Not too thick, relatively soft noodles they were but nothing was very special. Now it was the time to give it a little kick with the other ingredients. ...

Hungry Planet - Australia

On 12/7 I did a presentation about an Australian family and their food consumption featured on the book called Hungry Planet in the english class, and I thought it would be a great idea to share it in this blog, so here we go. The pictures above show the typical Australian foods . You may have heard about Vegemite , the fermented spread, but there are much more than just that! Timtam , the chocolate bar is a classic Australian snack, and just like in Great Britain they eat meat-pies, fries, burgers, and grilled chicken . The unique one is fairy bread , a simple sugar toast commonly eaten by children at birthday parties in Australia. Also, major part of Australian cuisine is based on seafoods due to its location. This is the Molly family and their weekly consumed foods . In the middle stands Emily , the mother of the family. The man next to her is the father John , and the girl is their daughter Nathalie . Finally, the boy staring at the huge vegetable is Sean , smallest child of t...

Restaurant Review Analysis

Hi everyone. It's been a while since I've done  a restaurant review on Menya Nishi Muku Samurai , but recently I had an opportunity to do an restaurant review analysis on my assingments at uni, so I'd like to share the outcome of the analysis. I analyzed two reviews , one is written, and the other one is visual . The written one that I analyzed was reviewing a restaurant called Dirty French . You can access to the original post on The New York Times here , but there's a paywall. Overall, the review wasn't something I was expecting from a restaurant review. It was very detailed, neutral and professional . The reviewer described wide range of foods on the menu as well as the exterior, interior, and the atmosphere of the restaurant in detail, which allows us to visualize the foods and the atmosphere of the restaurant in our head.  Assuming from the broad, unique and elegant vocabularies that reviewer uses, the readers of this review are wealthy and well educated....
